The cancellation of our Reserves fixture prompted me to take the chance of joining the team coach for our opening S.W League . The trip to Penzance and Newlyn is the longest of our journey of the season. It was only my second trip to the Mennaye venue. A venue with a long history which compares with our own dear Bitton Park.

The journey passes quickly with the chance to sit back, enjoy the countryside and get to know some of those that we see often – but without the chance to spend some time chatting.

The opportunity to be hosted at another club, compare notes, make new friends and experience the hospitality that Rugby thankfully preserves, is a blessing.

Judi has reported her experience of being greeted by one of the home supporters, proud to show her a match programme of his first game for P & N. The 1973 team list featured a lot of familiar TRFC past players – but just one was on our 2026 team bus – Adrian Roberts. Perhaps not such a huge surprise as Adrian featured on more match programmes than any other player in the history of our club.

Anyway, please can I commend you to look at the fixture list – choose a date that suits and book your place for an enjoyable day out. – All you need is a crisp £10 note. You can bring a friend and introduce them to the joys of away days!

Today’s team had 5 debut players for this league, 4 of which are teenagers and a few key players missing due to injury. The game didn’t go to plan, and Penzance took a very early lead. By half time the score board was at 24-7 with Faolan Lidstone scoring, converted by Kai Clayton. Teign’ kept up the fight and never let their heads drop but unfortunately were unable to get over the line again and the games ended with a score of 62-7. Player of the match was awarded to Jake Allison, sponsored by the Bishops Crew.
