Ivybridge were relegated last season from the league above and when Teigns travelled to Ivybridge in September they came away with their first loss of the season. Today, with the last game of 2025 Teigns were looking to get the win.
Teigns started strong with plenty of possession and when they had an advantage a kick over the top was tried. Back to advantage, and a lineout was won. The ball went across the pitch and Jordan Hellier passed to James Wright for the first try of the game, 5-0.
Ivybridge won their scrum in the 22 which meant Teigns were defending their try line. Penalty to Teigns, who then won their lineout, however Ivybridge gained possession near the try line and looked like they would get points on the board. Knock on from Ivybridge and a scrum to Teigns. With Teigns in possession on their try line a clearance kick came. Teigns gained another penalty as the player in possession was held up. Ivybridge gained back possession and a great tackle was seen by James Wright. Ivybridge kicked and Teigns called the mark. Teign lineout in home corner, with a maul gave Teigns the chance of a score but the ball was held up over the line. Forward pass from Teigns gave Ivybridge a scrum in the 22. Ivybridge won the scrum; however, the ball was intercepted by Harvey Ridgeway who ran the length of the pitch (!!) to score under the posts, converted by Luke Atkinson, 12-0.
This was quickly followed by another Teigns penalty, lineout and maul which gave a try for Dan Haywood, converted by Luke Atkinson, 19-0. With half time close Teigns gained another penalty for offside. A lineout in home corner followed by a try for Jack Bowen, converted by Luke Atkinson taking the score to 26-0 for half time.
Anything can happen and a lead of 26 does not secure the game, however Teigns player Peter Bilham was taken out in the air giving them an early penalty. Lineout and maul which created another penalty and a chance to kick for posts which started the scoring of the 2nd half, Luke Atkinson took the score to 29-0.
The game quickly went to Teign’s try line and defence, however Ivybridge knocked on by the try line, Teigns won their scrum, however Ivybridge stole the ball and gained their first points of the day 29-7.
Possession went between teams and it was clear Ivybridge still had a lot to give. Ivybridge had a lineout in home corner, but the ball was stolen by Cam Johns. Great kick from Luke Atkinson. Ivybridge had another lineout followed by a scrum which they won and were pushing up which created a try, 29-12.
The KO gave a scrum for Ivybridge on the halfway line. Advantage for high tackle and they kicked to home corner. Another lineout and maul gave another converted try, 29-19.
Ivybridge were coming back and both teams showed the pressure with tensions being seen and a yellow card for Teigns for offside. Ivybridge were close to the try line again but knocked on, and possession was back and forth. Teigns were back to 15 players, however then got another yellow card. This time Ivybridge took advantage of 14 players on the pitch and scored 3 points with posts, 29-22 to bring the game to a close.
