20th September Men’s 1st XV. Ivybridge V Teignmouth
With Ivybridge coming down from the league above and having an artificial grass pitch that most teams at our level are not used to playing on, it was set to be a challenging game for Teignmouth.
Teigns got off to a great start with plenty of possession and opportunities to score. However, Ivybridge successfully defended 3 lineouts close to the try line preventing Teigns from scoring and gaining a scrum from a knock on. When Ivybridge won their lineout they created a maul and scored a converted try. 7-0
Ivybridge gained possession from the KO and kicked to touch in the corner having a lineout. Teigns gained a scrum and kicked to find touch. However, Teigns lost the lineout and Ivybridge scored another converted try. 14-0
Things became heated between the teams and after a rumble a red card was issued to Ivybridge giving Teigns a number advantage for the remainder of the game. It looked as if Ivybridge was going to score again before half time, however a goal line drop-out was awarded. Teigns had a lineout and when the ball went into touch it was half time.
Ivybridge started the 2nd half by kicking straight into touch, giving Teigns a scrum on the halfway line. Teigns used pods to push up the pitch creating the first try of the day for Captain Franklin, converted by Mayne. 14-7
Ivybridge quickly came back with more points when they were awarded a penalty and kicked for posts. 17-7
Great pressure was seen from Parson from KO but possession went to Ivybridge when they won their lineout. Teigns were awarded a scrum which they won and used their pods again to push up. Ivybridge had another lineout but this time they lost and Gray made a break creating a try for Parsons, converted by Mayne. 17-14
Ivybridge was awarded a penalty and had another opportunity for posts but missed. The next penalty went to Teigns, kicked to touch, won their lineout and Ford made good ground. Teigns went into touch and Ivybridge created yet another lineout which was deemed not straight giving Teigns a scrum. The scrum was won and ball kicked which saw a great tackle from VC Bilham. Ivybridge continued the pressure and eventually broke through Teigns defence scoring another converted try. 24-14
With just 10 points in the score, it was still anyone’s game and Teigns Lines closed the gap with a try converted by Mayne. 24-21
Ivybridge came back and scored their 4th try of the day, converted to take the score to 31-21.
Ivybridge received a yellow card and with time short on the clock Teigns put up a fight, try for Knapman taking the final score to 31-26.
Man of the Match was awarded to Pete Parsons.
