Teignmouth’s ladies played their first league game of the season against Somerset visitors Wellington Vixens on Sunday (October 5). Despite conceding early in the game, Teignmouth regrouped and battled hard with some great scrummaging and set piece play. However, Wellington were quick to capitalise on Teignmouth errors and managed to cross the line a couple more times before half-time. Teignmouth settled better into the second half and held well defensively to only concede one more try. However, despite some promising attacking play were unable to convert possession into points. Teignmouth’s Forward of the match was Elly Meacham and the back of the match went to Abbie Warwick. The ladies’ next league game is at home against Withycombe on Saturday (October 11)
Two players made their senior debuts for this game. And, to prove that Teignmouth Rugby Club really is one big family, both debutants were playing alongside their mothers. Flankers Jacqueline McLellan and Tillie Jones joined their front row mums Jane McLellan and Laura Hallett for the first time.
