Saturday marked the 10th Anniversary for Teignmouth’s women’s team - on 29th November 2015 a group of Women, most of which had never played, took to the pitch at Withycombe. Maureen Powell, who was the club secretary at the time approached Angelique and Colin Aldworth about setting up a Women’s team. They were very successful in this and 10 years on the team continues. The Women celebrated with current players on the pitch against the University of Plymouth 2s.
The match started with an opening try from the Uni ladies but was quickly equalised to 7-7 scored and converted by Rachel Price. Tries continued on both sides and at half time the score stood at 21-21 after a try by Caitlin Ketes, converted by Rachel Price, then try by Jacqueline Mclellen, converted again by Rachel Price.
The 2nd half gave more tries on both sides. Elly Meacham scored, followed by Rachel Price who again converted to bring the final score to 33-28, a great way to celebrate 10 years of Women’s rugby. The game was followed by a roast lunch, kindly sponsored by Russell Sowden, who was Chairman when the women’s team began, and remains a great support to the team, as well as sponsoring Rachel Price.
