Teignmouth Vets

read all about us

Last season saw the re-introduction of a few familiar faces amongst the avid Teignmouth supporters down at Bitton Park as Teignmouth Vets managed to take to the field on 4 separate occasions.
An idea amongst a couple of ex players whilst enjoying Touch Rugby on a Thursday night and possibly a social beer or two turned into a few phone calls to round up the old guard.
Players that excelled in many eras of Teignmouth's past asked their better halves if they could maybe think or even dream about playing rugby again!
The ones who weren’t laughed at swapping the 'Saturday night Chase' and a beer to trying to find some boots and trolling Amazon for the latest gumshield!

That said last season saw 4 friendly games organised and 4 oppositions beaten.
Teignmouth Vets 53 - Oakhampton Vets 5
Teignmouth Vets 40- Withycombe 2’s 10
Teignmouth Vets 39 - Devon Deaf 26
Teignmouth Vets 77- Westcounrty Wasps 5

We have now found ourselves entering the Devon Wooden Spoon Vets league currently in it's second season this year where we will be joined by 10 other vets teams.

The teams has been divided into two regional leagues, South/ East with six teams and North/ West with 5 teams.

We are in the South / East league where it sees us in amongst the following clubs.

Teignmouth RFC Vets
Sidmouth RFC Vets
Exmouth RFC Vets
Exeter Saracens RFC Vets
Topsham RFC Vets
Ivybridge RFC Vets

The current format sees one league game per month from September through to March. Fixtures will be reversed the following season to give both clubs the ability to host home games.
The top two in each league will play in a place in the Wooden Spoon fundraiser final with a cup and medals as a prize. Teams finishing third and fourth in their respective leagues will play in the plate competition. The semi finals will be played in April 2026 and the finals in May 2026. The team with the least number of points will receive the Wooden Spoon Trophy. The winners of the leagues will also receive a trophy.

If you still think you could play please get in contact with Ivan or Charlie. Otherwise we look forward to seeing you at Bitton Park to witness the old boys again!

This season we are also taking Teignmouth RFC Vets on tour to Dublin in late September to play against Dublin team Monkstown RFC.
Currently there are 30 tour members already signed up ready to brave the onslaught of Guinness and fiddlers whilst attempting to play some decent rugby against an army of leprechauns.
There are still currently a few travelling supporter spaces left on the coach if anyone would like to join this motley crew in there adventures on the emerald island please get in contact with Ivan Pitman Ipelectrical@hotmail.co.uk.
