Best Performance of the Season

Teignmouth U14s 52 – 25 Taunton U14s

On a beautiful sunny lunchtime not morning at Broadmeadow, Teignmouth under 14’s produced their best performance of the season by beating a very good Taunton side, who had not been beaten all season.

They played some outstanding rugby against a well drilled, quality side. From the kick off Teigmouth made the better start, stringing their phases together well and keeping Taunton at bay and on the back foot. Indeed the Teign’s forced Taunton to kick from their own 22 meter line and from the kick talented full back James Rowe gathered the ball and returned it 40 meters to score his sides first try.

A few minutes later Taunton replied with a try of their own and it was game on. With the Teign’s growing in confidence minute by minute you could feel that today was going to be their day and they fought for each other and looked after the ball well.

To be truthful I can’t give you a detailed blow for blow account of the rest of the game as I was to engrossed with how we were performing and focusing on not letting our momentum drop, I can’t really remember the order it all happened. So I will now just let you know how all the players played instead and let the score speak for itself.

The forwards worked tirelessly to retain possession and are all worthy of a mention. Oscar Kennedy, Aidan Norbury, Teddy Harbert, Jason Carcamo and Tom Bennett really put in a shift today to make a platform for the rest of the team to play off. Logan Wolley had the best game we have seen from him making some barn storming runs right into the Taunton defence and he also set up a great try for James Rowe to finish. Jack Parr was just outstanding again and showed why we rate him so highly, leading from the front and causing the opposition a world of problems. Our back row of Daniel Noble, Luca Barbot and Jake Howard were everywhere securing the ball and backing up our talented backs. They really got in Taunton’s faces and never let them settle.

Our half backs of Finn Addiscott and Oliver Nicks controlled the game well and mixed our game up, knowing when to kick and when to run. Oli caused chaos in the Taunton backline on a few occasions and made the initial break in one of the best tries I have seen us score. The pack secured good ball and went through a couple of phases before it was released to Oli who broke the defensive line and then straightened before he passed to Charlie Doolan who in turn draw his man and fed Ben Scullard who then fed James Rowe to scorch in under the posts.
All of the backs played well with Tristan Green having another fine game and making some great tackles throughout. He may be small but pound for pound his tackling is amazing and he ran in for a lovely try created by once again by Oli Nicks. There was some great running from Louix Bustin, Luke Cockram and Ben Scullard. Charlie Doolan again gave his all in both attack and defence, never letting anyone past him and scoring a great try to boot. There were also two great tries scored by a ghost, next time I will try to see who it was !!! James Rowe at full back put in another a great performance, not only scoring another hat trick but he also saved a hat trick of trys with some outstanding one on one tackling.

I could go on all day about how well they all played today but they should all be proud of themselves and even after their tea break at the beginning of the second third, we as coaches were proud of them today.

I think this is correct below. If any different let me know.

Try Scorers: 3x James Rowe 2x Ghost Ollie Nicks Tristan Green Charlie Doolan

Conversions: 2x Finn Addiscott 3x Oliver Nicks 1x James Rowe

Well done to you all
