Teign's Bounce Back

Teignmouth U14s 50 – 3 Brixham U14s

On a beautiful sunny morning at Bitton Park, Teignmouth under 14’s showed what they could do when they play as a team. They played some outstanding rugby against a spirited Brixham side who gave the young Teigns some initial problems.

From the kick off Brixham made the better start, stringing their phases together well and keeping Teignmouth on the back foot. But the Teign’s defence was operating well and the back row set about disrupting Brixham’s ball.

After 5 minutes Ollie Nicks broke the Brixham defence and scored under the posts for Finn Addiscott to add the extras. Brixham came straight back and forced a penalty on the Teign’s 22 meter line which they elected to kick for goal making the score 7-3. This seemed to wake the Teign’s up and after James Rowe went over for his first try of the match, the Teign’s confidence grew and they started to dominate.

Further tries before half time were scored by captain Luca Barbot and two more for James Rowe (completing his hatrick), one of which was converted by Finn Addiscott making the H/T score 29-3

After the break the Teign’s kept up their intensity, hunting for the ball in defence and moving the ball wide at pace in attack. This was rewarded with a further six tries for the Teign’s, three of which were converted by Finn Addiscott.

Today the team really worked hard for each other and never let the Brixham team settle, with some great defensive pressing. And once the Teign’s had the ball they used it well and there was some fantastic offloading in contact and off the floor to keep the ball alive. The handling between backs and forwards was excellent and even towards the end of the match they were still trying to work the phases and create quick ball for the backs.

Everyone made big contributions to the game, this showing in having 8 different try scorers, but there are a few special mentions, namely to Jack Parr who has been outstanding the last few weeks and I was delighted when he got his well deserved try, also to Aiden Norbury for his great try (going through four defenders) and for his all round game and to James Rowe who had a great game, counter attacking from deep from their kicks and also for making some big tackles in defence.

My last special mention is to Louix Bustin who was having a great game, causing all sorts of problems in the Brixham defence and scoring a lovely try until he sadly had to go off injured in the second half. We have now learned that he has broken his wrist and we wish him a speedy recovery. As we do also for Charlie Doolan who broke his thumb last week.

Try Scorers: 3x James Rowe 2x Jake Howard Ollie Nicks Tristan Green Aiden Norbury Luca Barbot Jack Parr Louix Bustin

Conversions: 5x Finn Addiscott

Well done to you all
