Cup Win for Young Teigns

On a beautiful windy morning at Broadmeadow, Teignmouth Under 14's put in a good performance to progress into the next round of the Devon Cup.

On paper this looked a game that the Teigns should overcome but playing up hill and against the wind in the first half they were given a shock and were up against a large Cullompton side that started the game really well and took an early lead while the Teigns were still waking up. This shook the Teigns a bit and they had to work hard to get their game going. Cullompton were definitely not here to make up the numbers and constantly tried to slow the Teigns ball down and kept the forwards true in their commitment to the rucks.

The Teigns began to play and worked some phases together and got into the opposition 22 and forced a scrum. A well worked 8,9, 14 move down the blind side ended with a well taken try by birthday boy Tristan Green. This was later followed by some lovely passing by the backs to put the rapid Ben Scullard in for a great try shortly before half time. H/T 10-7

The Teigns were given a bit of a rocket (no pun intended with it being fireworks night) at half time and with the wind at their backs they came out firing and quickly got on the score sheet again. This time it was Louix Bustin who saw a gap in the opposition defence and took it. The Teigns now were beginning to fine their form and played the wind conditions really well keeping Cullompton pinned in their own 22 through some lovely kicking from fly half Ollie Nicks.

It was not long before Louix Bustin went over for his second, and shortly after that the pressurised Cullompton outfit put in a clearance kick that fell straight to full back James Rowe who pinned his ears back and scorched past 3 defenders to score near the posts. This time the try was converted by Finn Addiscott. Further good work by the whole team ended with two more well worked tries from Charlie Doolan who also wanted me to mention he had a hat trick of assists.

The Teigns had worked out their opposition and put in a great second half performance to win 37-7 and should be proud of their mornings work. The whole team played well together with a special mention to Logan Wooley who had a tremendous game when he came on. The hard work from the forwards created a great platform for our talented back line to show their skills. Well done to all the players and keep working hard for each other.
