Great win away from home

Teignmouth Under 14's produced their best performance of the season by beating a very good Kingsbridge side away from home.

On a very wet pitch and with a greasy ball the Teigns looked after the ball well and started to go through the phases, hitting rucks hard and running with purpose.Equally when Kingsbridge had the ball the Teigns mostly never let them settle and hunted the ball down. Led by their outstanding Captain Luca Barbot, Teignmouth fought for control of the game.

10 minutes in to the game and after a couple of phases by the forwards, centre Louix Bustin took a great line on the outside of his man to burst through and evade the covering defence to score from the halfway line. This was converted by Finn (Jonny Wilkinson) Addiscott. 0-7

Kingsbridge came straight back at the Teigns and a fantastic clearing kick put in by fly half Ollie Nicks in our 22 relieved the pressure. Indeed from this the Teigns were able to work their way up the field and from just outside the opposition 22 Nicks through a dummy and went through the gap to score under the posts with Finn adding the extras. 14-0

This sparked Kingsbridge in to live again and from our own 22 scrum half Finn Addiscott put up a great box kick to take us up the feild. Shortly after a mix up in midfield with a dropped ball and a few missed tackles allowed their danger man to skip through under the posts. 14-7

With half time approaching the Teigns were really starting to hit some good form especially in the scrums where they were utterly dominant. After some more good direct running by our forwards, centre Bustin once again hit a similar line to evade the defence and score again. Finn added the extras. H/T 21-7

Despite telling the guys that Kingsbridge will come out firing at the start of the second half, we came out a little off the standards shown & required and through dropping off by 20% and falling off our tackles, Kingsbridge worked hard and brought the scores level at 21-21 with 10 remaining.

At this point it was any ones game and with the home team pumped up it looked to be slipping away for the young Teigns, so they were given a few hard words behind the posts and sent out for the big last 10.

From this point on it was all Teigns !!! They upped their game and blew Kingsbridge away in the contact area. Nicks kicked them into position and the forwards and backs combined and ran with real purpose at the opposition. A further close range score by Bustin gave the Teigns a 26-21 lead with 4 minutes to go, but rather than settle for that there was one more push from the Teigns and they were rewarded with a penalty 40 yards out. Nicks produced a great kick into the Kingsbridge 22. From the line out the forwards took it on a couple of phases before Big Jason Carcamo came crashing though the Kingsbridge defence at pace to settle the match. F/T 21-31

I was going to pick out a few players for special mention but when thinking hard about the game EVERY one of the team made a big contribution to this result and they should all be proud of their efforts.
