Teignmouth made the short trip to Torquay with a slightly unbalanced squad owing to a shortage of backs

The Teigns made a good start pinning Torquay in their own half, and it was no surprise when in the 7th minute Dan Aldworth scored for the third week running after a 40 metre sprint and a nice hand off. Callum Couch converted.

This seemed to wake the home side up, and within three minutes they were level with a converted try of their own, and on the half-hour mark they took the lead with a questionable try after the referee appeared to miss a knock on. The try was again converted, and the Tics led 14-7.

Teignmouth came back into the match with an excellent try by Chris Day after 33 minutes when he ran in unopposed from the 22, This time player manager Terry Veacock took over the kicking duties to tie the score at 14-14.

An exciting first half concluded with Torquay scoring an unconverted try on the 38 minutes but then losing their discipline and conceding two penalties for offside, both of which Couch scored to leave the half-time score 19-17 in favour of the home side.

Starting the second half with only 14 men because of a yellow card late in the first half, Torquay’s discipline did not improve, and Teignmouth were soon ahead thanks to another Couch penalty.

With the penalty count rising, the home side Torquay then received a red card for foul and abusive language towards the referee. Teignmouth took full advantage with Day’s second try of the day and Couch’s second conversion, completing the scoring.
