In the first 10 minutes they managed to concede three penalties which immediately put them on the back foot, and it was only a matter of time before the home side opened the scoring with a converted try.
The lead was doubled just before the break, but the Teigns got on the scoreboard during injury time when Callum Couch scored a try which also converted.
However, the second half was almost one way traffic; apart from Sean Lovett’s try in the 55th minute, most of the game was played in Teignmouth’s half, with Withycombe running in three converted penalties to add to a penalty.
Player coach Terry Veacock noted that the late re-organisation of the side because of the First XV call-ups and other players being unavailable led to several of the team playing out of position; however he acknowledged that the players need to work on their fitness to prevent sides getting away from them in the final stages of matches.
This week the reserves face Bideford at Bitton Park.
