Teigns’ perfect start to the season continued with a comfortable win over struggling Pirates Amateurs.
Often it takes teams a while to get into their stride after a long journey, but Teignmouth are a well organised bunch these days, and their warm-up routine obviously blew away any cobwebs as they stormed to a 24-0 lead by the 24th minute.
Once again the power and speed of Teignmouth’s forwards were responsible for the visitors taking control of the match, and ensuring that they held on when the Pirates briefly threatened a comeback in the second half.
Teignmouth have a good mix of hardened veterans and confident, talented youngsters, and it was two of the latter who laid the foundations of the victory in the first few minutes, as Luke Pattison and Jamie Gray continued their successful start to the season with a try apiece.
Shortly afterwards Josh Davey joined in the fun with a try of his own, before full back Dan Force put the result beyond reasonable doubt with the fourth, which once again earned Teignmouth a bonus point.
Much of Teignmouth’s dominance was down to the excellent tactical kicking of fly-half Will Luscombe; unfortunately his place kicking was not up to his usual standard, as he only managed to convert two of the tries.
The home side finally got themselves on the scoreboard with a try just on half time from Oliver which Brownfield converted, and then opened the second half with another from Law. But despite having a lot of possession in the second half the Pirates only managed to add a Brownfield penalty, before Teigns’ skipper Colin Aldworth crossed the line to continue his remarkable run of a try per game since the start of the season.
So Teignmouth consolidated their position at the top of the table, and will look to continue their promotion bid against rock-bottom Plymouth Barbarians at Bitton Park this Saturday, kick off 3pm.
