Report by Paul Williams

After this disappointing result it seems that Teignmouth’s dream of promotion is over for this year – Tavistock and Honiton continue winning and now need to lose all of their remaining matches to give the Teigns a chance of sneaking into second place.
After two victories based on a disciplined approach, Teignmouth let themselves down somewhat and fell victim to the referee’s whistle and Falmouth fly-half Rob Banks’s boot.
The early exchanges brought hope for the visitors – within 5 minutes they had scored the opening try through flanker Ben Parrett, and shortly afterwards Dan Force added a penalty.
However, the discipline problem reared its ugly head midway through the first half, when skipper Colin Aldworth was shown yellow. One man down, the visitors came under intense pressure and Falmouth’s winger Ben Woodman made them pay with a try which Banks converted.
With Aldworth back on the pitch, Teignmouth resumed control of the match and Force added two penalties to give them a seven point lead.
Unfortunately in the second half Teignmouth seemed content to keep the play amongst the forwards – Falmouth proved earlier in the season that they have a formidable pack, and the result was that the Teigns found themselves in trouble with the referee on a regular basis. Banks took full advantage to kick four penalties and put the Cornishmen in charge.
Whilst there will be disappointment at Bitton Park that Project Promotion appears to have been put on hold for a year, the improvement shown by the side since last season has been remarkable, and Teignmouth will certainly start next season among the favourites for a top two finish.
This week should see a bumper crowd at Bitton Park for the visit of Hayle. Firstly the Colts play an important game against Exeter Chiefs (KO 1pm), and in addition the club is holding a Past Players Lunch. The First XV kick off at 3pm.
