Teignmouth victorious against the odds

Teignmouth U9’s faced their Brixham counterparts to play two matches on a heavy pitch on a wet November morning. Despite being a hastily arranged fixture with some key players missing the team stepped up to the mark and delivered another convincing performance to continue their excellent start to the 2012/13 season.

Josh Couch opened the scoring on 2 minutes showing a turn of pace to beat the Brixham defence. This was soon followed up by Oliver Nicks (Man of the Match) who ran from the Brixham try line to double the lead. Two tries in quick succession from Jude Baker –Hands followed. The opposition did manage to pull back a couple of tries however Teignmouth’s domination of possession and tackling in particular from Oscar Kennedy (Captain) and Thomas Walters paid off with two further tries, one from Finn Addsicott following some clever jinking through the Brixham defensive line. Further tries from Oliver Nicks and Jude Baker-Hands in the second period (3) following good lay off and support from Jack Parr and Oliver Nicks culminated in a 50-15 final score.

The second match was an even more one-sided affair as Teignmouth grew in confidence and some excellent passing and interplay followed. Although Brixham managed to hold Teignmouth to a 20-10 lead at half time with tries for Josh Couch, Oliver Nicks (2) and Jude Baker-Hands, in the second period Teignmouth ran away with the match showing great stamina and determination despite some challenging conditions. A try from Josh Couch in the opening seconds set the tone, followed by a further try from Luke Cockram who showed excellent pace throughout the two games. Two further tries from Finn Addiscott and Oliver Nicks completed a well deserved 50-10 victory in the second match.
