Blowing away the cobwebs!

After a couple of weeks with cancelled games due to the February weather, the boys were all keen to throw down this morning and turned up to Brixham in game mode and we all had a friendly welcome aside from the mist covering the pitches!
We played 8 a side over a total of 5 x 10 minute sessions mixing up the combination of players, which helped to demonstrate several of their individual and collective strengths.
Most encouragingly the parents watching all felt something really has clicked into place with the team; it is becoming visible to all of us that the boys are thinking about their available options and making positive choices to push play forward. Quality passages of play with lovely long passes from Elliott and Max to Alex SC along with powerful running from James and Laurence came in the first ten minutes. This was followed up in the second 10 by a couple of good breaks from Dan and Max with Teigns defence being truly tested with several plays being very close to Brixham’s try line. Notable try saving tackles came from Dan, Fletch and Jake and when Fletch managed to jump on a loose ball some insightful passing between James and Max with help from Nathaniel lead to a well worked try. The third session was well matched between the two teams and Brixham put pressure on right from the start with an early try but Teigns fought back with Archie stripping ball, Ollie making a good step and Callum unleashing the speed but being unlucky just short of the line. Some hard tackles were put in today especially during these latter minutes.
Towards the end in the fourth and fifth set of ten mins the boys struggled a little with fatigue and loose passes but this didn’t stop some inspired moves and several late tries from both teams. An awesome interception from Laurence lead to all eyes watching as he got over the line and celebrated with a ball smash down! Some good interplay between Alex T and James along with Elliott, Laurence and Jake finished up the final passage of play with a TRFC try.
Tries a plenty today with ten scored overall between James, Fletcher, Archie, Laurence & Jake W.
After match discussions between our 4 coaches/ helpers today (Ben, Matt, Lee and Jonathan) and those boys who had been watching from touchline giving their observations special mention was for the team’s general improvement in counter rucking with Player of the week going to Max Cassidy having been described as looking for and setting up the wide passages of play.
Looking forward to next week away at Ivybridge! C’mon Teigns! ?
