Teignmouth progressed to the 3rd round of the Devon Cup with a hard fought but well executed win over North Devon rivals Tiverton.

Teign's had to come from behind as Tiverton scored as early as the first minute, but from the restart they exerted plenty of pressure on the visitor's defences. First George Thomas almost went over but was knocked into touch just short and from the resulting line out they nearly scored again but for an unfortunate knock on. With so much play in the Tiverton 22 it was no surprise when Teigns levelled the scores, Jai Simmons breaching the Tivvie lines as Teign's had a three man overlap.Frankie Dart making no mistake with the conversion.

Teignmouth continued to hold the territorial advantage and from a strong effort in the scrum Jack Southwood spun the ball out to Simmons, a lovely interchange between Dart and Rory Simpson saw the ball received by Johnnie Joseph who scored in the corner. From the restart Tiverton's attack was thwarted by a crunching tackle from Jack Morgan-Richards, the loose ball collected by Thomas who embarked on a strong run handing off several tackles and making 50m before off loading to the supporting Simmons who fed Cam Peacock to score between the posts. With Dart once again securing the extra points Teign's established a 19-5 lead.

However, despite the scoreline Tiverton, were never out of the game and Teignmouth were pleased to hear the half time whistle blow as Tiverton had set up camp on the home side's 10m line.

The second half was a tight affair. Tiverton were pushing hard and exerting a lot of pressure in Teign's territory. It was slightly against the run of play when scrum half Southwood burst through and was tackled within site of the Tiverton tryline. From the resulting scrum Cam Peacock scored his second try of the game and Dart converted. Apart from the odd break out the remaining action was in the Teignmouth half as the home side battled to keep the visitors out. Spirited tackling from Rudge, Cope, Helier and Nye amongst others, predominantly kept Tivvie at bay, but they were able to score a consolation try to make the final score 26-10.

Teigns had played some excellent, expansive rugby and were clinical with their point scoring, but Tiverton deserve credit for making this a very tough encounter.
