This was a keenly anticipated match as each side contained half a dozen players from Torquay Grammar school, which gave the fixture an extra edge for those boys.
Seth Boxall opened the scoring with a trademark run from his own half - once through the initial gap he had too much pace for the covering defenders. However Torquay came back strongly with some very direct running that Teignmouth were too slow to close down, and the home side soon found themselves down by three tries to one.
Scrum half Jack Webb had caused problems for Torquay from the start with his darting runs from the side of the scrum, and he was rewarded when he saw a gap and touched down after some classy handling between Samuel Rose, Sam Harrion and Noah Lambert had taken Teignmouth close to the Torquay line.
That score was the end of a first half which had seen Teignmouth having to work hard to cope with the bullocking runs from the big Torquay centre and their dynamic second row, and some slick running and handling from the Teignmouth three quarter line who were given good ball throughout thanks to some excellent rucking from their forwards.
With Teignmouth trailing 17-14 the second half began very evenly matched, before a strong drive down the right wing ended with Matt Hawkes crossing in the corner for a score, which was awarded after the visiting side's touch judge had sportingly confirmed that the ball had not been passed forward in the build-up.
Teignmouth extended their lead to 7 points before Torquay made a hole in the Teignmouth midfield and were only halted just short of the try line by an outstanding tackle by Connor Moore. Unfortunately Torquay were able to recycle the ball and scored under the posts, and the conversion drew the scores level at 24 -24.
With time running out, Seth Boxall again found a gap and broke clear to touch down for his second try of the match which brought matters to a close, much to the relief of all the Teignmouth players, coaches and spectators.
