Teignmouth Colts 24- Plymstock Colts 17

Both teams were evenly matched with Plymstock shading things up front but Teignmouth’s potent backline always looked dangerous. It was Teignmouth who opened the scoring when Plymstock gave away a penalty on their 10 metre line and Joe Simmonds was successful with the kick. Shortly afterwards Plymstock’s direct running was rewarded with a try near the posts which was easily converted.

With both defences tackling hard it was difficult to see where the next score was going to come from until Joe Simmonds took advantage of a quick tap penalty to score a fine individual try that he converted himself. Plymstock then started to exert pressure on the Teignmouth line but couldn’t break through a solid defence. Their persistence finally paid off when they were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which they easily slotted to level the score at half time.

After the break Teignmouth introduced Connor Stevens in the centre for his first outing for the club and his physical presence made an immediate impact with several line breaks. With Teignmouth pressing hard Stevens split the Plymstock defence to score a try on his debut that was converted by Simmonds. Plymstock again applied pressure and chose to run a penalty but Simmonds took advantage of some poor handling to steal procession and Callum Selley kicked the ball down the line for winger Ben Apps the chase and score. Simmonds was again successful with the conversion. Plymstock rounded of the game by scoring a converted try with the last play of the game leaving Teignmouth to run out 24-17 winners. Teignmouth’s Max Goodwin was awarded man of the match for his excellent work in defence.
