Teignmouth Rugby Club LAUNCHES PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CHILDREN’S CHARITY OF RUGBY
On 7th October 2017, members of Teignmouth Rugby Club welcomed Wooden Spoon the children’s charity of Rugby as an official charity partner. Over the coming years the club aims to support the charity which funds local projects supporting disabled and disadvantaged children.
TRCF are very proud to be the first club in Devon to become official partners and have joined a growing family of rugby clubs across the UK and Ireland who have joined the charity’s exciting Partner Club Programme providing an opportunity for rugby clubs and Wooden Spoon to work together to change disabled or disadvantaged children’s lives and secure mutual long-term gains throughout joint fundraising initiatives.
TRFC are one of the fastest growing clubs in the South West, now boasting 12 Junior quads for boys and girls and 4 senior squads for Women and Men.

Club Chairman, Russell Sowden, said: “We believe that our hugely successful senior squads is down to good relevant coaching techniques and benefiting from a large amount of pour Junior section playing up over the years together then into the senior squads. Progress in these areas and in other areas off the pitch has meant we can now demonstrate support for a well known national charity that is making a difference in our local community and creating life changing project for children throughout Devon and beyond. I can’t tell you how immensely proud we all are to be part of this amazing Charity.

This is only just being rolled out in Devon and we are delighted that Teignmouth are the first club to sign up. Wooden Spoon is the children’s charity of rugby. We fund life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland to support disadvantaged and disabled children.
Our rugby heritage has given us our core values of passion, integrity, teamwork and fun. Working closely with the international rugby community, these values drive the ethos and spirit in everything we do.
We fund a range of projects, which are not just rugby focused. We fund approximately 70 projects a year including respite and medical treatment centres, sensory rooms, specialist playgrounds, sports activity areas and community based programmes in the UK and Ireland.
We have over 400 committed volunteers raising money in local communities across the country and we are extremely proud to say that the money they raise funds projects in their local area.
Due the phenomenal support we have received from the rugby community and the public, we have been able to help over a million children and young people through our life-changing projects since we were founded in 1983.
But this still isn’t enough. With numbers of UK disadvantaged children anticipated to reach an all time high in future years, we continue to need the public’s help more than ever.
