Teignmouth overcame a strong and competitive Sidmouth team 41 points to 19 to reach the final.

On a very dry pitch after the recent fine weather, which enabled both teams to play open running rugby, it was Sidmouth who scored first with a try by their right wing which was converted by their fly-half

It was now Teignmouth’s turn to apply the pressure, and after a penalty on the 5m line, which they decided to run, the ball was passed out to Tom Masters to squeeze through the defence to go under the posts with Joel Ashworth adding the extra points with the conversion.

This gave Teignmouth the confidence to start running with the ball, and after a break by Ben Horrill, picked up and continued with the forwards, the ball went out again to Tom Masters, who timed his pass to perfection, to send Connor Rowe over in the corner.

After a spell of rugby in the middle of the pitch with both teams stealing the ball off each other, the ball finally broke to Dan Woolnough on the half way line. He broke clear to score an excellent try which gave Teignmouth a commanding lead of 17 points to 7

However, Sidmouth were not giving up, and they too scored an excellent try by their number 8, who picked the ball up in his own half and raced past everybody down the touchline to score in the corner. They quickly scored their third try of the match, when the outside centre intercepted a pass from the Teignmouth backs, going under the posts with the conversion being added for Sidmouth finishing the half leading 19 points to 17
In the second half, with the Sidmouth forwards tiring, the Teigns’ pack exerted the pressure and with some excellent passing by both the forwards and backs, Connor Rowe went over twice in quick succession to give Teigns the lead. Ashworth made one of the conversions to take the score to 29-19.

Sidmouth were a resilient bunch and were not making it easy for the home team, and with a bit of luck could have added to their own score, but an excellent break by Horrill set the ball up for Kyran Rendle, and with his Danny Care head on he picked the gap in the visitors’ defence to go under the posts for the third try of the half with the conversion again being made by Ashworth.

After a final period of pressure by Sidmouth, the ball ended up once more in Horrill’s hands, and he made another excellent break and set up the ball for the forwards, with Ethan Redgers picking the ball up and forcing his way over for a final score of 41 points to 19.
